TALENT AND HARDWORK

Webster’s dictionary defines talent as “a special often athletic, creative, or artistic aptitude”. Today there are several talented people in the entertainment game. And only few have taken the variable of hard work out of the equation of success. Greats like James Brown, Lionel Richie, Toni Braxton, and others had some basic training. But there are others who totally rely on their God given talent have been known to fail later on in their careers. My perfect example would be Usher Raymond AKA USHER. He is a talented singer and worked hard on himself and improved and matured from My Way to Climax. He started from singing normal tunes to adding falsetto effects in his voice which stepped up his game and gave him hits like DIVE, LEMME SEE, etc. He received positive criticism for his growth.

As a singer/songwriter I have dedicated myself to learn more about the art. I may have a God given talent but every day, I research on how I can cultivate my art. And put tweaks on my voice to make it a different sound (my sound). I derive inspiration from both gospel and secular artists like Deitrick Haddon, Donnie McLurkin, Israel Houghton, Anthony Evans, Usher Raymond, Olly Murs and John Legend because I desire to exceed the range I have and possibly over take these guys *wink*. Dreams like these push me to my limit every time I get on stage in church because I want people to hear good music from me.

My advice to all who are relying on your talent is this. Talent along is a dull blade. It takes the filing and painful sharpening power-duo of hard work and experience to turn your talent to a gift.

To emphasize my point, I took to the streets and had an interview with a music producer. ENJOY
